We’re a special group called the Happy Fun Friends. Most of us have been friends since elementary school, some of us go all the way back to preschool, and some came along in high school. We are mostly ’96 Central DeWitt grads who have gone off to do amazing things and some of us even came back to live in DeWitt and still do amazing things. We’ve shared just about every milestone because our friendship is still strong after all these years.
Happy Fun Friends started in high school when we’d get out of school early every third Wednesday because of teacher in-service. We called those “Happy Fun Days.” These were afternoons free from school activities, work obligations, and parental control. Whether it was grabbing lunch at the Mandarin buffet in Davenport, having a private movie showing at the Operahouse, or just hanging out in someone’s basement we always made it a point to be together and to create our own fun or our partake in our usual antics.
Now almost 25 years later we still meet up for “Happy Fun Days” as often as we can but in places like Colorado, Florida, and soon Germany. People tell us all the time they can’t imagine still being friends with people from school. We can’t imagine not being friends.
