Ivan Dixon attended DeWitt Central until his untimely death in 1992. He was a son, brother, and friend. Ivan loved to make people laugh. He was a total comedian and was willing to be a complete goofball in order to get a laugh. Anything to make someone smile. He was a good listener and prided himself on being there for his friends when they were struggling. Ivan was active in wrestling, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, acting, and coaching little league baseball.
When he was a senior in high school a virus attacked his heart causing it to enlarge. He was put on a list for a heart transplant and spent a lot of time in the University of Iowa hospitals. He was the youngest adult to receive a heart transplant. Although the surgery was successful Ivan’s body did eventually reject his new heart and he passed away. Ivan’s silliness and smile are still missed by all that knew him. His family is so happy that HFF has chosen to celebrate his life with this wonderful scholarship.
