About Jess

Each year the HFF Cash Award will honor a special person in our lives.

2020: Jessica Peavey Lemek

We tried to come up with words worthy of describing Jessica to show the impact she had on us, and the rest of the world, but her sister said it best:

“If I had to pick one word that best describes my sister Jess, it would have to be “fierce”.

She was a fierce competitor, mostly with herself. She was an All-State pianist and not only could play Tchaikovsky to perfection, but she could rock out the best version of “Bohemian Rhapsody” while her two sisters would sing along.

She was a fierce protector. She’d be the first to torment her siblings, by either cutting our Barbie doll’s hair, insisting it would grow back, or making prank phone calls within our own home to scare, or make us laugh. If anyone messed with her two little sisters as a bully in the neighborhood, or she saw someone she didn’t even know being picked on or harassed, she would step in to protect them.

She was a fierce friend. Jess had the unique quality to make a friend anywhere, anytime, and would find a way to foster that friendship forever. She was blind to differences and embraced anyone with them. She wanted to learn new things, new cultures, new languages, and seek to understand everyone and everything.

She fiercely loved. She loved her family, her friends, her co-workers, her husband, and most of all, her children. She loved to sing, she loved to dance, she loved to make music, she loved to learn and she loved to laugh.

Jess’s light will fiercely shine on forever through those lives she touched. Any recipient of this wonderful award of love, kindness and laughter, should know she would have been honored to have known someone so deserving of it.”
